It is the 12th of February and wow this year is on its heels. It is not slowing down. The week of love is finally upon us. I know most ladies have been waiting for this day.
Some of you guys asked if I stopped writing. No loves, I haven’t stopped. The past few weeks have been shaky for me and I’m still trying to find stable ground. That statement sounded as if I’m being bombarded with earthquakes and tsunamis ha-ha.
Anyways so the week of the year that everyone gets either engaged, heartbroken, asked out, asked to be exclusive etc. Where some people get excuses like, “baby imagine my mom grounded me, I’ll see you over the weekend tho” “babe si me hukupelekanga out Kila time” “zii me Niko ushago” “babe pole boss ametukalia Leo” “Niko na cat” “Kuna project nafaa kusubmit”. The list is endless. Worse than that, others will just be blocked on that day. People will see their boyfriend’s wives taken out, their girlfriends being proposed to. It will be a rough one for some people.
The thought of a day to celebrate love and affection is really exciting, for once you’re never romantic guy gets romantic and buys you flowers or your girlfriend is less of a headache. Those who can, go for bae cations, the rest we go to normal food joints, some really nice dinners others prefer to stay indoors. The choice is yours however you choose to spend the day, it is really a good feeling being with a significant other.
I don’t remember who I heard this from but one of my friends said Valentine’s day was commercialized to sell flowers. We all have our different thoughts on this day but I bet most of you agree. It is a day to celebrate love.
Now love is another thing that we millennials do not seem to get a handle on. My favorite description of love which I believe with my whole heart is from the Bible. Yes, the Bible and I will quote it for you. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith hope, and patience never fail. Love is eternal.”
You see how love is such a beautiful thing. Love is not sticking with someone as they put you through hell. The abusive boyfriend /husband the arrogant dismissive wife/girlfriend. I understand a lot goes on in people relationships that outsiders don’t comprehend but don’t ride or die and get a black eye every other week. Don’t be miserable and sad because your partner doesn’t value your opinion or aspirations. We are getting all of this wrong yes there will be hardships and temptations and all type of things going wrong at time, but if your partner isn’t will to talk and work towards the problem why are you even there. As much as there is forgiveness there is kindness. A lot of us are out here damaged and trying to find ourselves because what they said was love wasn’t.
Love is complementary and fulfilling and cozy and warm (cheesy, ha-ha I know). Being a parent and child type of love, husband and wife, between friends or self-love. There are different but all trickle down to its purity genuine care, affection, and concern.
There is a friend of mine who is so convinced that love is false emotion and one can only feel affection and that is a story for another day. I hope y’all enjoy yourselves this Valentine’s.
